When is a best time to go for a Mental Health Checkup? This is far from a bait & click question.
Chances are, if you are wondering about any one area, or multiple areas of your life in terms of your satisfaction and fulfillment, then now is a good time to seek out an assessment with a Licensed professional. Hopefully, you and your family already go once a year to your Primary Care Physician and twice a year to your General Dentist to prevent and intervene early on issues that require medical attention. Similarly, we can all prevent mental health & relationship issues, work and life (negative) stress simply by going for an annual or semi-annual mental health screening.
Historically, there are many reasons we don’t generally “self-select” a first call for a mental health appointment (i.e. confusing insurance coverage, busy schedule, stigma, etc.) but that’s not what this blog is about. Sometimes it’s just helpful to know that you are not alone in procrastinating your call.
Today, most mental health professionals such as Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists and Psychiatrists have adopted a “strength-based, solution-focused approach’ to any assessment and counseling.
Layperson terms: We work with you from a biological, psychological, social and even spiritual basis and as quickly as possible. We help you pinpoint your strengths and areas of need before you meet criteria for a diagnosis of Clinical Depression, Anxiety or Marital & Family difficulties, to name a few common maladies. When counseling is medically necessary and agreed to, all can often be facilitated with one weekly, out-patient visit. Your progress and outcomes can be monitored and measured on a 1-10 or 1-100 scale.
